My Journey as a 19-Year-Old Graphic Designer
When people see my portfolio today, they often assume that I always knew I wanted to become a graphic designer. The truth is quite different.
My journey started long before I opened Photoshop or learned about branding and design. As a child, I was deeply interested in art and creativity. I loved sketching and drawing, and creating art was one of my favorite activities. At one point, I even had a YouTube channel where I shared my sketching process and creative work.
Art was never just a hobby for me—it was something I genuinely enjoyed. I could spend hours drawing and creating without getting bored.
However, as I grew older, studies became the priority. Like many students, I slowly moved away from my creative interests. I stopped drawing regularly, shut down my YouTube channel, and focused entirely on academics.
My father always encouraged me to learn technology and build practical skills for the future. At that time, I wasn't interested in computers, graphic design, or anything related to digital creativity. I simply couldn't imagine myself pursuing a career in that field.
After completing my 12th grade, I started preparing for JEE. Unfortunately, things didn't go as planned. The pressure, stress, and uncertainty affected me deeply. Looking back, I feel like I lost an entire year trying to figure out my direction.
Although that period was challenging, it eventually led me toward something that would change my life.
My father suggested that I enroll in a Graphic Design course at Advance Development Skill Center (ASDC). Initially, I joined without knowing how much it would impact me.
As the course progressed, something unexpected happened.
For the first time in a long time, I found myself genuinely excited about learning. Design felt different. It combined creativity, technology, problem-solving, and visual communication. It reminded me of the artistic passion I had as a child while introducing me to an entirely new world of possibilities.
I became deeply interested in learning design tools, understanding layouts, exploring colors, and creating visuals. Within just three months, I learned the fundamentals of graphic design and developed skills that I never thought I would possess.
At the age of 18, after completing the course, I received my first Gold Medal. It was a proud moment—not because of the award itself, but because it proved that the year I thought I had wasted was not truly wasted.
While I wasn't pursuing a degree during that period, I was building something equally valuable: skills.
Soon after completing the course, I received my first professional project. The opportunity came through LinkedIn when a COO reached out to me. I still remember how exciting it felt to work on a real project and realize that people were willing to trust my creative abilities.
That first project opened new doors.
More opportunities followed. I started freelancing, working with different clients, and building my experience one project at a time. Through each project, I improved my skills and gained confidence in my work.
At the same time, I wanted to experience the corporate environment as well. This led me to pursue professional opportunities where I could collaborate with teams, work on larger projects, and learn how creative work contributes to business growth.
Today, at just 19 years old, I have worked on branding projects, social media campaigns, packaging designs, product infographics, AI-generated content, marketing creatives, and e-commerce visuals. I have gained experience in both freelance projects and professional work environments.
What makes this journey special to me is that I eventually found my way back to the creativity I loved as a child.
Design doesn't feel like work to me.
Even today, after completing a project, I often find myself looking at the final design for hours, thinking, "I created this."
That feeling never gets old.
Every project teaches me something new. Every challenge helps me grow. Every design becomes part of my journey.
At 19, I know I am only at the beginning of my career. There is still so much to learn, create, and achieve.

And this is only the beginning.
